Charity Worker

You may be eligible for a Temporary Work visa under the Charity Worker category if you are doing unpaid voluntary work for
a Home Office approved sponsor in the UK.

Before applying, you must have a certificate of sponsorship from your employer which will detail the work you will be
undertaking with them.

Eligibility

You will usually need to prove that you have £1,270 in your bank account for supporting yourself while in the UK.

How long this visa allows you to live in the UK is based on the length of work stated in your certificate of sponsorship. As a general rule, you may be granted up to 12 months’ stay at a time.

You can apply for an extension from within the UK before your visa expires which may grant you up to a further 12 months’ stay. You must continue to meet the eligibility criteria to do so and will be required to remain in the UK until a decision is made which usually takes about 8 weeks.

Your partner and children may be eligible to apply to join you in the UK.

If you have multiple jobs in the UK with a single employer, the certificate of sponsorship can cover the entire length of your
stay (maximum of 12 months) but there must not be more than 14 days between each engagement. To work for more than
one employer, you can get a certificate of sponsorship from each one; you will have to apply again to change your sponsor.
